Fall 2021 Membership & Dues Information

CURRENT NON-MEMBERS

  • If you are interested in joining SAVMA this year just to get PLIT (liability insurance) for clinics:
    • You can pay online for one year through the AVMA (click here).
    • You will need your SAVMA ID (6 digit code) to log in​
    • You will need to sign up for PLIT after you pay your dues; simply paying your dues does NOT sign you up for insurance​
  • If you are interested in also receiving post-graduate benefits: ​
    • You need to pay for all 4 (or more) years that you are a DVM student​
    • Please reach out to our membership chairs (Rachel Smeenge or Amanda Aubin) receive an email to complete this payment through Venmo. ​​
    • Membership benefits:
      • ​Free conversion to AVMA for remainder of your graduation year ($100)
      • 2 years of reduced membership ($330)
      • FREE AVMA convention registration the year you graduate ($500)
      • Savings on JAVMA and AJVR while in school​​

CURRENT MEMBERS

  • If you have been paying your SAVMA dues yearly through the AVMA:
    • Please pay online for one year through the AVMA (click here).
    • As a reminder, will need your SAVMA ID (6 digit code) to log in
    • It is recommended you pay by August 30th to avoid having your account "deleted"
      • After this point, you will need to recreate your account to pay and will need to re-enroll in any SAVMA services you are currently using (such as PLIT). 
  • If you paid for all 4 years already
    • You do not need to take any action at this time. Please continue reading for information on points.

Dues and Point Requirements

SAVMA DUES

  • Cost:​

    • 4-year membership = $140​

      • We​ STRONGLY encourage students to choose this option. We understand this seems like a lot of money, especially during your first semester at school, BUT you will not need to worry about paying dues ever again! This is especially nice during clinical rotations!

    • 1-year membership = $35

  • Late Fees:

    • If you pay after the deadline (usually by the third week in fall semester)​, a $19 late fee will be added to your dues.

  • How to Pay Dues:​​

    • Place payment in the form of cash or check (Venmo is also accepted!) addressed to MSU SAVMA in the SAVMA lock box in the Student Center (Gray box to the left of the student mailboxes by the computers).*

      • Make sure your name is associated with your payment!! (i.e. an envelope with your name and class year on it, etc.)

  • Joining SAVMA after the deadline:

    • If you missed the deadline, don't worry! It's never too late to join! Send an email to msucvm.savma@gmail.com or contact one of the membership chairs to find out more information or get signed up.

POINT REQUIREMENTS

*Active Points now count forward!! (Ex. if you get 4 active points your 1st year, your points can count forward so you have already met the requirement for your 2nd year)

*Make up points available for Meeting and Active Points! If you are missing points from the past, you can make those up by completing those missed + current points due

1st Year Students: 

 

2nd Year Students

  • Attend 2 SAVMA meetings during the academic year 

  • Earn at least 4 active points total (including first year's active points) by the end of the academic year

​

3rd Year Students: 

  • Attend either 2 SAVMA meetings, participate in 2 active point events or do one of each within the academic year. 

  • If you have earned more than 6 active points total (including first and second year's active points) your have already met the requirement!

​

4th Year Students: 

  • Pay dues! If you participate in group pay, you're all set!
